Lowry Landfill is located near the intersection of Quincy Avenue and Gun Club Road in Arapahoe County, 15 miles southeast of downtown Denver. From 1965 until 1980, it accepted municipal and liquid industrial waste from businesses and residences in the Denver metro area. The 508-acre site was listed as a Superfund site in 1984. Since then, those responsible for contamination—including private businesses, municipalities, and state and federal agencies—have spent more than $150 million for environmental studies and cleanup directed and overseen by the EPA.
